Mapping of Dal Lake significant to know latest position

Srinagar, Sep 10 (UNI) With a view to knowing the latest position of the world famous Dal Lake, Jammu and Kashmir government, besides taking number of steps to save this water body, has decided to conduct the mapping of the Lake in consultation with the Directorate of Remote Sensing, Hyderabad.

The government besides approving purchasing machines for cleaning the Lake and continuing manual weeding operation, also decided that a team would be deputed outside the state to study the latest technology adopted by some states like Kerala for the treatment of Houseboat sewerage so that same could be applied in the state.

Addressing the tenth meeting of the Coordination Committee (CC) constituted for the conservation and rehabilitation of Dal and Nigeen Lakes here today, Chief Secretary S S Kapur called for all out efforts to conserve the world famous water bodies, the most attractive tourist destinations in the city.

With regard to the latest status of the Lakes, the CC decided that the mapping would be done in consultation with the Directorate of Remote Sensing, Hyderabad so that the latest position about the Lake area can be ascertained.

The meeting was informed that a provision of Rs 10 crore, including Rs 4.32 central and Rs 5.86 crore state share, has been made available for the road cut for laying of trunk sewers and secondary laterals under the Dal project.
