Valsaraj exhorts police to end rowdy menace

Puducherry, Sep 9 (UNI) Puducherry Home Minister E Valsaraj today exhorted the police department to take effective steps to end rowdy menace in the Union Territory.

Inaugurating a medical camp for the aged, Mr Valsaraj, who also holds the Health portfolio, said it was the duty of the police to maintain peace and ensure that tranquility was not shattered.

All steps were being taken to modernise the police department, he added.

He launched a website for the aged and distributed health cards to them.

Later, he inaugurated an eye donation camp, organised by the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), in which 1,000 IRB personnel donated their eyes.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Valsaraj said he would meet Union Home Minister Shivaraj Patil and raise the issue of getting house rent allowance for the IRB personnel.
