Bhubaneswar, Sep 9 (UNI) Orissa Tourism Minister and senior BJD leader Devi Prasad Mishra today flayed Union Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken for making ''irresponsible'' statement on violence-hit Kandhamal district.
Mr Maken should rise above narrow political mindset and behave with responsibility in the larger interest of the people, Mr Mishra said.
Talking to newspersons here, the Tourism Minister said when normalcy was returning fast in Kandhmal and efforts were on to bring communal harmony and amity among the people, the statement of Mr Maken comparing Kandhmal with Godhra would further add fuel to fire.
Godhra-like situation did not prevail in Kandhmal as alleged by Mr Maken, the BJD Minister said and asked Mr Maken to refrain from making such ''absurd'' statements.
Violence erupted in Kandhamal after VHP leader Swami Laxamananda Sarswati was gunned down by some unidentified assailanants at his ashram in Jalaspeta in Kandhamal on August 23.
Accusing the Congress of adopting a ''double standard'', Mr Mishra said the Congress was behind the riot in Delhi following the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
The party also, he said, deliberately prolonged the Amarnath Shrine land issue and tortured the minority there.
Mr Mishra said the law and order situation in the Congress-ruled states like Delhi and Hyderabad was the worst in the country.
On the demand of CBI inquiry into the Kandhmal violence, the Tourism Minister said such a demand would help the party ''twist'' it to their advantage as they did in the Bofors case.
