Lower cadres of oppsn want to join Cong: APCC
Hyderabad, Sep 9 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President D Srinivas today claimed that second and third rank cadres of the opposition parties including the Telugu Desam wanted to join the Congress as they were impressed by the welfare schemes initiated by the UPA Government at the centre and the Congress government in the state.
Addressing a press conference here, he said he had received feedback from his partymen that several workers of opposition parties wanted to join the Congress. He called upon the Congress party cadre to welcome them and assured that the party would recognise them.
Regarding the comment made by the opposition TDP President Chandrababu Naidu that the Congress would get only a few seats in the next elections, he reiterated that the party would win 230 seats in the next elections as the people welcomed the welfare schemes and developmental works launched by it during the last four-and-half years in the state.
"We depend on ability, performance and confidence" he said adding no party was alternative to Congress and the people were with it.
Instead of making comments and predicting the prospects of other parties, it would be better for Mr Naidu to protect his own party as several second and third rank cadres were leaving his party as they thought that they had no future in TDP, he remarked. Regarding Actor-turned-politician and Praja Rajyam Party founder Chiranjeevi's assurance to the people that he would change the state politics in Andhra Pradesh, Srinivas said he did not understand what change he wanted.
