Twin-headed female baby born in Tamil Nadu

Tiruvannamalai (Tamil Nadu), Sep 8: In what is being described as the rarest of rare cases, a woman gave birth to a dead conjoined 'twin-headed female baby' at the government hospital on Sunday, Sep 7.

Hospital sources said R Selvi (28) of Kengavaram Village in Kalasapakkam Taluk was admitted to the hospital with labour pain last evening. Since, there was difficulty in normal delivery, a team of gynaecologists performed caesarean section on the woman last night. The conjoined twin-headed baby was declared born dead. The baby had four legs and four hands. The doctors said it was due to genetic disorder and added it was a rarest of rare cases.

Had the woman undergone requisite medical checkups after she became pregnant, the doctors could have detected such abnormal feotus, they added. A large number of people visited the hospital to have the glimpse of the infant.
