Tata Communications launches CDN service

New Delhi, Sep 8: Tata Communications on Monday, Sep 8 launched its next generation Content Delivery Network (CDN) service powered by the US-based firm BitGravity.

Tata Communications, which had announced a strategic partnership with BitGravity in March this year, has invested 11.5 million dollars in convertible debt in BitGravity, validating the company's content delivery platform as a key benefit in Tata Communications' value-added services offering. ''The launch of Tata Communication's CDN service is a major milestone in our strategic roadmap to offer unparalleled managed services globally,'' Tata Communication Chief Operating Officer Vinod Kumar said in a statement.

The company chose to work with BigGravity because it has the best architecture and technology to deliver high quality content and video, he added.

''Video will soon become over 80 per cent of the traffic on the internet and content delivery will become strategic for every carrier. Carriers without CDN strategy will inevitably become insignificant and will also lost the economy of scale required to be competitive,'' Chief Strategy Officer of Yankee Group Berge Avayzain said.

This is a strategic endeavour for both Tata Communications and BitGravity and sends a bold message to the global CDN market, he added.
