Raipur jail inmates complain about sub-standard food, extortion

Raipur, Sep 8 (UNI) Jail inmates of Raipur central prison have complained to the Chhattisgarh Human Rights Commission about being provided sub-standard food and extortion.

The eight-member CHRC team received these complaints during a surprise inspection carried out at the jail today.

Inmates complained about sub-standard food and being harassed on not paying extortion money. They said better quality food was being served when the Joint Collector was given charge of jail some times back.

The team inspected jail hospital and medical cell also and directed that regular check-ups of jail inmates be carried out.

Earlier, similar complaints were received and the CHRC had made strong comment on it but no action has been taken. Meanwhile, the CHRC Joint Secretary said a detailed report would be sent to the government and some action expected.
