Puducherry Movement urges CM to focus on redesignation

Puducherry, Sept 8(UNI) Taking exception that no Minister in the present cabinet was redesignated as 'Minister for Local Administration', Puducherry Panchayat Movement today urged the Chief Minister V Vaithilingam to redesignate a minister in his cabinet for the portfolio.

In a letter to Mr Vaithilingam, President of the Movement, V A Vasudevaraju said in India and abroad, ministers were redesignated for 'Local Governments' and for 'Panchayati Raj' in the Central Government.

Mr Vasudevaraju said after May 2007, had steps been taken to facilitate the process for redesignation, it would have encouraged the panchayat and municipal leaders to perform with renewed vigour.
