Language controversy in Maharashtra is political oriented: Naqvi

New Delhi, Sep 8 (UNI) Expressing concern over the latest Marathi-Hindi controversy in Maharashtra, the BJP today said it was being fanned for political considerations rather than out of love for either language.

In a statement, BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said both Marathi and Hindi are Indian languages and have due recognition. "Let there be no confrontation on them," he said.

Mr Naqvi said the controversy had arisen due to the vested interests of some politicians who deliberately raked, such issues to satisfy their egos.

"Cine artist and MP Jaya Bachchan has made some remarks intentionally for political reasons and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena is raking up this issue to derive political mileage," he said.

The BJP vice president said some people had been trying to divide the country on a caste, religion and region. "Now these people want to divide it on language basis," he added.
