Fake caste certificates help win polls, say study

Madikeri, Karnataka, Sep 8(UNI) Thousands of fake caste certificates are being produced at Somwarpet to win elections and hold high posts.

A study of records in the Revenue Department and complaints lodged revealed hundreds of deserving candidates had lost their chance of winning and occupying coveted posts due to malpractices by Revenue Department officials and brokers.

Mr K J Dundappa, an SC, contested for the VSSBN Director's post this March but lost against another reserved candidate.

The investigations revealed the rival candidate had produced a fake certificate claiming he belonged to Nayaka sub-caste.He had acquired the certificate in 2005 from Somwarpet.Mr Dundappa has filed a case and lodged a complaint.

In another incident, a political party appointed a person as the president for its SC/ST Cell.

A thorough investigation will throw light on hundreds of such incidents at Somwarpet Taluk and the District Administration had to consider the issue seriously, the study said.
