CPM demands SC observer for public hearing on Bauxite mining

Visakhapatnam, Sep 8 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) District Secretary Ch Narasinga Rao today demanded that the Supreme Court Empower Committee Obsever should be appointed for the public hearing on Bauxite mining in the four blocks of Jerrala reserve forest in Agency area and said the mining in the area would sound the death knell for enviorment and tribal welfare.

The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board few days ago issued a notification inviting objections if any at the public hearing, to be held at Chintapalli on October 3.

Talking to newsmen here, he said there was no justification in holding the public hearing without explaining to the Adivasis in their own language the impact of mining.

An atmosphere of fear had already been created in the Agency area, he said adding the terror was created in Makkavarapalem area during public hearing held in June this year for the refinery by deploying Police.

The agitation by the CPI-M actvists would be going on to oppose bauxite mining, he added.
