Buta condemns 'Khap' panchayats in Haryana
Chandigarh, Sep 8 (UNI) Taking strong note of the 'Khap' (caste) panchayats functioning in Haryana, National Commission for Scheduled Castes Chairman Buta Singh said the Commission would approach the President in this regard.
''No parallel legal system could be allowed to function besides the law of the land. We will approach the President of India in this regard,'' he said while talking to reporters here.
He said the country's legal system was sufficient to tackle all situations and no parallel system had any relevance. ''We condemn the functioning of khap panchayts.'' Dr Buta Singh was in the town to review the implementation of various schemes being implemented by the Haryana government for the welfare of the Scheduled Castes people.
