Era of US supremacy over: Iran

{image-mahmoud ahmadinejad_07092008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Dubai, Sep 7: Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said the Bush administration's failures have guided the 'US Empire' on a road to perdition and its era of supremacy is over.

''The era of (US) unilateral supremacy on world affairs through flexing muscles has come to an end,'' Mr Ahmadinejad said during a visit to China on Saturday, Sep 6, Iranian news networks reported. He pointed to the numerous White House failures during the presidency of George W Bush such as the crises in Afghanistan and Iraq as well as the ailing US economy.

The US-led war in Afghanistan began in October 2001 in a bid to 'defeat' terrorism by capturing al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, who has reportedly taken responsibility for the 9/11 attacks on the US, destroy his terrorist cell, and remove the Taliban regime.

While none of the objectives has yet been accomplished, Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Admiral Mike Mullen said in July that the situation in Afghanistan is currently 'precarious and urgent'.

The occupation of Iraq began in 2003 after the then US Secretary of State Collin Powel presented the UN General Assembly with evidence implicating the oil-rich country as an active producer of chemical and biological weapons with ties to al-Qaeda.

Over one million civilians and at least 4,000 American soldiers have so far lost their lives in the 'war on terror' in Iraq inspite of the fact that all such US allegations against the country have been discredited as lies.
