BJP MP Adityanath escapes attack: one killed in violence
Azamgarh/Lucknow, Sep 7 (UNI) Firebrand BJP member of Lok Sabha Yogi Adityanath escaped an attack on him here today even as violence broke out in the city leading to death of at least one person and injuries to three others.
Tension gripped Azamgarh city, when a mob torched about 12 vehicles, including five of the cavalcade of the BJP MP.
Police said the deceased -- Shafiullah was resident of Mau, while the injured included VHP activist Harshbharti, Nihal and Gyanendra Mishra. The VHP activist's car was also torched in the violence.
The deceased was dropped at a hospital by one vehicle, while more details about him were yet to be known, police added.
Meanwhile, Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Brijlal denied any firing by the police and said the police lathi-charged and used tear gas to control the mob.
The ADG said the situation was under control and five companies Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed on the spot, while DIG and IG were camping the area.
Additional forces have also been sent to Gorakhpur to avert any untoward incident there.
According to police, the situation in the city was tense and the authorities were considering clamping curfew in the areas like Paharpur-Takia, Badarka, Kot and Rajbahadur.
The disturbances started when an irked mob pelted stones on the vehicles of BJP MP Yogi Adityanath in Takia locality, while he was on his way to address a public meet at the Dav College.
The BJP MP had been taken to a safer place by the police and he was unhurt, sources informed.
