IIIT foundation course filled with tenth class merit students

Hyderabad, Sep 6 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Information Technology and Communications Minister R Damodar Reddy today said seats in the IIIT Foundation Course were filled up with seats being allotted to meritorius tenth class students as per guidelines.

Replying to a question by a member from the Teachers' constituency G Srinivasulu Naidu during Question Hour in the Council, he said the government was following the guidelines of Reservation for admissions.

He said 33 per cent of seats were reserved for girls in each category.

Giving details about the procedure, he said the admission in each constituent institute would be given to those who pass Secondary School Certificate Examination in their first attempt in an academic year, from the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Reddy said the total intake of students from the state would be 6000 at the rate of 2000 per each institute at Basara, Idupulapaya and Nuzivedu. There would be no entrance examination and admission would be strictly based on student's performance in the SSC examination, he added.

Out of the total number of seats, 15 per cent seats (as per the Presidential order) totalling 300 per institute would be open to state level toppers, irrespective of their region, rural or urban background, respecting the Reservation norms.

He said rural mandal was taken as a unit in the selection of suitable candidates.
