Guv violated democratic norms on Singur talks: Dasmunsi

Kolkata, Sep 6 (UNI) Information and Broadcasting Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi today alleged that West Bengal Governor Gopalkrishna Gandhi did not maintain ''democratic process'' regarding talks on Singur without calling the Congress to the discussion table.

''The Congress was involved from the beginning in the Singur movement and our party's strength stands a few less than that of the Opposition Trinamool Congress in the Assembly. So, it was necessary for the Governor to invite us to the discussion table for sorting out the problems,'' Mr Dasmunsi, also the State Congress president, told newspersons here.

''The Congress is keeping a close watch on the Singur imbroglio and the problem can be sorted out only if the government provides land against land, sufficient compensation and rehabilitation packages to the farmers,'' he underlined.

The Congress would organise a movement against the Left Front government's failure on every front after Durga puja throughout the state and instructions had been sent to all the district leaders in this regard, he said.

Mr Dasmunsi informed that the Pradesh Congress executive committee has been formed nominating himself as president and Pradip Bhattacharjee and Subratra Mukherjee as the working presidents.

Ten vice-presidents, one treasurer, 11 general secretaries, 22 secretaries, 41 executive members and 14 permanent invitees had been selected in the committee, he added.
