Corporates should join hands with govt to serve poor: TN CM
Chennai, Sep 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today called upon corporate giants and philanthropists to join hands with the government to provide eyecare facilities to the poor.
Inaugurating the ''Kamalnayan Bajaj Institute for Research in Vision'' at Sankara Nethralaya here, the Chief Minister said the government alone could not take up the task of providing eyecare facilities to the people.
Organisations like 'Nethralaya' and Corporates like Bajaj, besides philanthropists, should come together with the government to achieve the task.
''Those who had money should have the heart to help people and only if all of us come together, can we serve the poor and downtrodden,'' Mr Karunanidhi said and commended Bajaj for setting up the Research Centre in association with Sankara Nethralaya.
A situation had prevailed when the Tatas, Birlas and Bajaj were branded as corporate giants keen on making money. But the situation has changed now as they have come forward to serve the people.
This trend should continue and corporates like Bajaj should be the guiding light in carrying this message, he said and pointed out the government's agreement with Tata for helping tsunami-affected fishermen.
