Release detenues, hold talks with Hurriyat, PDP
Srinagar, Sep 5 (UNI) Demanding immediate release of all detenues, including separatist leaders, arrested during the recent crisis, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said indiscriminate arrests in the valley will further alienate the people and may add to the popular anger.
In a joint statement here this afternoon senior vice president Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, General secretary Nizamuddin Bhat and political secretary Mansoor Hussain has urged the government to release all detenues, including separatist leaders arrested and later booked under Public Safety Act (PSA) and other acts during recent crisis.
They said the alleged indiscriminate arrests in Kashmir may further add to the popular anger. In fact, the situation in Kashmir has worsened alarmingly, they said, adding attempts should be made to bring home the angry masses of valley.
The leaders said that the use of force has neither worked in the past nor will help in dousing the current volatile situation now.
Expressing their dismay over what they termed insensitivity of the government of India in defusing the current situation, the PDP leaders underscored the need for initiating Kashmir-Centric Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) and initiation of an institutionalised dialogue with the separatist leaders to bring in peace and harmony in the region.
The PDP favours early resumption of trade on Srinagar- Muzaffarabad road to address the content of alienation among the Kashmiri masses.
