Dy Speaker holds fort for entire day in AP Assembly
Hyderabad, Sep 5 (UNI) For the first time in Andhra Pradesh legislative history, Assembly Deputy Speaker G Kutuhalamma conducted the House proceedings for the entire day today in the place of Speaker K R Suresh Reddy against whom the Opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) had moved a no- confidence motion.
The Deputy Speaker, who was in chair, had a tough time in controlling the House with the ruling and opposition members frequently staging noisy protests during the discussion on the power situation.
A special one-day session of the Assembly would be held on September 15 to take up the motion moved by the TDP and the TRS.
The TDP had stated it had lost faith in the impartialty of the Speaker as the House was allegedly being run on directions from Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and Government Chief Whip N Kiran Kumar Reddy.
The TRS was upset with the Speaker for not deciding on the party's petition for disqualification of rebel party MLAs.
