BEML bags contract for Stainless Steel EMU coaches
Bangalore, Sep 5 (UNI) Public sector BEML's Kolar Gold Fields plant has bagged a contract for supply of 18 Stainless Steel EMU Coaches.
The Railway Board had placed a Developmental Contract on BEML for design, manufacturing, supply, testing and commissioning of two rakes consisting of 18 state-of-the-art SS AC EMU coaches valuing Rs 31 Crore. The delivery would be made in two years, a company release said here today.
On completion of the supply of these two rakes, there was a provision to enhance the quantity for six rakes, totaling 54 coaches, taking the total contract value to the tune of Rs 92 crore.
BEML with its experience in supply of Metro coaches to DMRC project would be manufacturing these SS EMU corrosion resistant coaches with superior passenger-friendly interiors, inbuilt safety features and with higher and increased life cycle of the coaches.
Once these EMUs were developed and pressed into service, BEML would be addressing the huge demand of Indian Railways for an expected demand of 3000 EMU coaches, valuing around Rs 5000 crore in due course.
This is the first time in India that a indian company was designing and developing SS AC EMU Coaches, the release added.
