Aizawl to have Rajiv stadium

Aizawl, Sep 5 (UNI) The Mizoram State Works Advisory Board, chaired by Chief Secretary Haukhum Hauzel, yesterday selected Llyod Insulations (India) Ltd, Kolkata, to construct eastern main gallery and southern gallery of the proposed Rajiv Gandhi sports stadium here at an estimated cost of Rs 27.97 crore.

The stadium is to be constructed on the Assam Rifles Ground here in a phased manner.

The phase-I is expected to be completed by March 2011. The stadium after completion will be able to accommodate around 17,000 people.

The board also selected M/S Tantia Construction Ltd Kolkata for improvement works of Lengpui Airport at the cost of Rs 14.28 crore.

After completion the airport could accommodate Boeing 757.

Works will commence shortly and is expected to be completed within four months, official sources said.
