One dead, another injured in bike-car collision
Sangrur, Sep 4 (UNI) The newly-inaugurated Sangrur-Dhuri Railway Over Bridge (RoB) witnessed its first fatal accident in the very first night of its opening to public last night.
Two bike-borne youths, who had gone to have a ride on the new bridge, were hit by high-speed car coming from the wrong side, police said today.
Rohit Kumar, driving the bike without helmet, sustained serious injuries and died on way to hospital.
Pillion rider Jaswinder Singh, was admitted to civil hospital with serious injuries.
However, the driver of the car fled leaving behind the vehicle which was later impounded by the police.
Police have registered a case under section 304 and 279 of IPC.
The bridge was inaugurated with much fanfare by Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, M P, Sangrur accompanied by PWD Minister Paraminder Singh Dhindsa yesterday.
