Need to improve our school education: Dr Gill
Amritsar, Sep 4 (UNI) Expressing concern over the present state of affairs of the country's school education, Union Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Dr MS Gill today said unless priority was given to improve educational standards in schools, quality in higher education cannot be achieved.
''Improvement in higher education could only be made if due attention is given towards school education and health services by the State and Central Governments'' said Dr Gill while speaking at Guru Nanak Dev University here after inaugurating the indoor shooting range and Asia House building of the varsity.
Prof Dr Jai Rup Singh, Vice-Chancellor highlighting the achievements of the University in various sectors said Guru Nanak Dev University was committed for academic excellence at the international level.
To cater the sports needs of the region, the University immediately needed Synthetic Track, Velodrome and more facilities in its Indoor Gymnasium to promote and develop sports, they said.
The Vice-Chancellor said in cultural field, the University had already won National Youth Festival Trophy for seven times and planned to build another auditorium with more seating capacity and AC facility if the requisite finances were provided by the State and Centre Governments.
The Sports Minister assured the university authorities of all possible financial assistance to strengthen its sports infrastructure.
