Farmer commits suicide owing to financial problem
Hassan, Sep 4 (UNI) A 55-year-old farmer from Savanthahalli in this district of Karnataka today committed suicide by consuming poison due to financial problem.
Police said the farmer Basave Gowda, who had 3.5 acres of land and grew potatoes in his land, but due to torrential rains the entire crop was destroyed.
Mr Gowda had raised a loan of Rs 2.5 lakh from a Co Operative Bank, besides availing a loan of Rs 1.5 lakh from a money-lender.
This is third case of suicide by the farmers in the district recently due to damages of the crop in heavy rains, police added.
