Traditional 'Vinayaka Chaturthi' celebrations in TN

Hundreds of devotees thronged the historic Mukkuruni Vinayakar temple here, a famous shrine inside Sri Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple since on Wednesday, Sep 3. Special 'pooja,' 'abhishekam' and 'maha Ganapathy homam' were performed. The presiding deity was adorned with 'Velli Kavasam' (silver robe) on the occasion. The giant 'Kozhukkattai,' (a dish made of rice and jaggery), weighing about 20 kg, which is unique to the temple, would be offered to the deity later in the day.

Similarly, hundreds of devotees offered prayers at the famous 'Sri Karpaga Vinayakar' temple at Pillaiyarpatti in Sivaganga district on the occasion. Tight security arrangements were made at historic temples in the southern districts.
