Tripura Congress threatens to launch agitation
Agartala, Sept 3: Tripura Congress on Wednesday, Sep 3 threatened to launch agitation against the ruling Left Front if they reinduct tainted minister, Shahid Chaudhry.
Mr Chaudhry, state Food and Civil Supplies Minister, has resigned from the Cabinet following media reports of his alleged involvement in abetting Harkat-Ul-Jihad-Islami (HUJI) activist Mamun Mian without a CBI inquiry. Criticising Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for not keeping his assurance to the Assembly of handing over the case of HUJI militant Mamun Mian to the CBI, Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath said here that the party had been trying to bring Mr Choudhury into the ministry. ''State government has cleared the decks for re-induction of Mr Chaudhry through a tutored investigation which gave clean chit to the former minister,'' Mr Nath said. It was a proven fact that Mamun was a HUJI member and had links with al-Qaeda and ISI and Chaudhry had very close relation with him, he claimed.
