Orissa Violence: SC directs State to submit report
New Delhi, Sep 3: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday, Sep 3, directed the Orissa government to file an affidavit, about measures it plans to take to protect people and contain violence in the state. The Orissa government shud submit the report by Thursday, Sep 4.
The apex court also asked the state government to put on affidavit whether any permission was granted to VHP leader Praveen Togadia for his proposed Yatra carrying the ash of slain leader Swami Laxmanananda Saraswati. A Bench headed by Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan posted the matter for further hearing for Thursday, Sep 4. The SC was hearing a petition filed by the Archbishop of Cuttack seeking a CBI probe into the communal violence that broke out in Orissa's Kandhamal district following the killing of the VHP leader.
