Largest seizure of Rs 270 cr heroin in Punjab

Amritsar, Sep 3: In the single largest seizure of heroin in Punjab, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) seized 54 kg heroin in Khem Karan border sector of Tarn Taran district of Punjab ning.

Confirming the recovery, state intelligence sources said the seized drug was worth Rs 270 crore in the international market, where the current price of heroin had recently shot up to around Rs 5 crore for a kg.

Three persons identified as Kabul Singh and Mohinder Singh of Wan Tara Singh village and Jasbir Singh of Manna Mallian village were nabbed while transporting the consignment, which had been smuggled into India from Pakistan a couple of days back. The consignment was being taken to a 'safe' place by the three.

The trio were later booked under the NDPS Act.

Further details of the seizure were still awaited as the three arrested persons were being questioned. The DRI team was led by its Joint Director D R Rastogi.
