TN: ED urges HC to reject Dinakaran's petition
Chennai, Sep 3: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has urged Madras High Court to reject AIADMK MP T T V Dinakaran's petition against the Chennai District Collector's bid to recover a penalty of Rs 28 crore imposed on him by the FERA Board.
The petition filed in this regard by Central Government Standing Counsel M Dhandapani on behalf of ED Deputy Director R Mohandoss seeks to implead the Directorate as a party to the proceedings.
Justice A Kulasekaran, hearing the petition yesterday, adjourned the matter to September 10 for further hearing.
In February, 1998, the ED had imposed a penalty of Rs 31 crore on Dinakaran for FERA violations. When Dinakaran appealed against the order, the board reduced the amount to Rs 28 crore.
