Ganeshotsav begins amidst religious fervour

Nashik, Sep 3: The much-awaited Ganeshotsav began amidst religious fervour here on Wednesday, Sep 3 and Lord Ganesh arrived at many homes and Mandals for his annual sojourn on the earth.

The exuberance to welcome the God of Knowledge, prosperity was witnessed among people from early morning itself. Though the installation of the God can be done from sunrise to sunset today, the 'Sarvotkrishta Muhurt' (the most auspicious time) for it was till 1224 hrs to follow it, rush among people was seen and the Lord made His arrival in many households before the said muhurat.

Markets, shops and streets were overcrowded with people as purchase of Ganesh idols, Pooja material, decorative goods and sweets was on. Households wear a festive look with decorations all over the place.

From early morning itself, the air was filled with enchanting of Mantras and songs praising the Lord. This year the Ganesh devotees have one more reason to rejoice as the God's sojourn of 10 days every year has been extended by one more day as the Anant Chaturdashi (The day to bid adieu to the Elephant-headed God) comes on the 12th day of the festival.

Meanwhile, besides households, around 1,000 big and small Ganeshotsav mandals have also made preparations for the festival.

Police are keeping a strict vigil during the festival to avoid any untoward incident.
