Criminal case registered against cardiologist
Bilaspur, Sep 3 (UNI) A criminal case has been registered against cardiologist Jairam Iyer for alleged negligence in attending to city mayor Ashok Pingley leading to his death at Apollo hospital on August 12 here.
Collector Subodh Singh said the government had constituted a three-member expert committee to investigate into the matter. The Health Secretary had sent him the report last night. A case was registered against Dr Iyer under section 304(A) of the IPC.
Apollo hospital management had also formed a committee comprising Apollo Group Vice-Chairmen Dr Prem Kumar and Dr Prabhakar, cardiologist Shabeen Chakrobarty and Bilaspur IMA Chairman Colonel Y S Dubey to inquire into the case.
The committee had found Dr Iyer guilty of negligence and expelled him.
Meanwhile, Mr Pingley's brother Alok Pingley had said local Apollo management was also responsible.
