8 drown as boat sinks in UP
Ambedkarnagar, Sep 3 (UNI) As many as eight people drowned after their boat capsized mid-stream in the Tamsa river here.
Police said the incident happened when 22 people were returning to their native Badnapur village from a fair late last night.
While 14 people swam to safety, eight met a watery grave. Their bodies were fished out by divers later this evening.
The deceased had been identified as Raja Ram, Ram Yash, Ramsharan, Sandeep, Ramjanma, Agyaram, Hemant and Jitendra.
Meanwhile, the district administration said the state government would provide monetary help of Rs one lakh each to the kins of the deceased, while assistance of Rs 10,000 each would be provided by State Transport Minister Ram Achal Rajbhar.
