Speaker calls discussion on " Strengthening Parliamentary democracy"
New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee has called a round table discussion on "Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy " to be held here on September 4.
According to a Lok Sabha Secretariat release issued here today, the round table will be attended by eminent Parliamentarians and political leaders, legal luminaries, mediapersons, leaders of civil society and academicians.
The round table discussion is taking place in the backdrop of the recent developments which generated an unprecedented interest among various stakeholders in the democratic process. The Lok Sabha Speaker has been highlighting the import of purposive interactions, covering a wide range of issues affecting the masses, so as to strengthen Parliamentary democracy.
Similarly, in his sustained efforts towards preserving the time-tested democratic norms, he has also been underlining the need for consolidating the country's democratic accomplishments to restore people's trust in the credibility of Parliament, the release added.
