Observance of Ramzan begins in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 2: The holy month of Ramzan known as Chak-hentha among Manipuri Muslims began today.

Greetings poured in from all political parties, NGOs and leaders. Special Ramzan prayer called '' Taraweeh '' were held at mosques in Manipur.

Elaborating on Ramzan, Dr Thokchom Meinya, Member of Parliament said It is the fasting month observed by the followers of Islam focusing on their faith with strict observance of the teachings of the Holy Quran and Prophet Muhammad.

Waking up as early as 3:00 am for 'Sehri' the prayer starts which continues throughout the day, the constant presence of God is sought to be experienced, Mr Meinya added.

During the Ramzan rivalry is avoided, hatred is suspended,husband and wife live apart though in the same home, mother and children both follow the same spiritual regimen and an atmosphere of brotherhood is maintained.

The body, sense and the mind are subject to strict discipline.
