Man pulls out his second eye to fulfill vow to Shiva

Bagalkot, Sep 2 (UNI) Mudakappa Karadi, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva, like Bedar Kannappa of Puranas, to fulfil his vow to God, today gouged out his 'left eye' too and became blind forever at Adagal of Bagalkot district.

Karadi had earlier removed his right eye on August 28 and came to be known as Modern Bedar Kannappa for donating his eyes to Shiva.

Police said that Karadi (41) after performing his morning pooja gouged out his left eye and placed it infront of the idol at a place of worship, near his house.

Karadi, Kuruba by caste and small scale farmer, has an unshakable faith in God and believed that Lord Shiva would perform a miracle and restore his lost sight and give wealth.

He has eight children and struggled to bring them up, his family said.

The profusingly bleeding Karadi was admitted in Kamarsa hospital in Bagalkot where doctors said he had become completely blind and no chances of restoring his sight.

Interestingly, Karadi seems to be not worried about his blindness as he is seen chanting the name of the God.

Significantly his wife also supported him when he gouged out his right eye on August 28, saying that Lord Shiva had ordered him to do so.

Meanwhile, disregarding the tragedy behind the horrific incident, hundreds of people thronged to the place of worship and started worshipping the eye placed infront of God even through it was being eaten by the ants.
