Srinagar, Sep 2 (UNI) The Jammu and Kashmir government was undertaking a thorough probe into the killing of senior leader of Hurriyat Conference (HC) Sheikh Abdul Aziz during the ''Muzaffarabad chalo'' march on August 11 at Boniyar in Baramulla.
This was told by Governor N N Vohra to a delegation of Awami National Conference (ANC) who presented him a memorandum at Raj Bhavan here this afternoon on the present situation in the state, a spokesman of the ANC claimed.
He said when the delegation members drew the attention of Mr Vohra to the recent statement of National Security Adivsor M K Narayanan on Sheikh's killing, the Governor assured that the government was undertaking a thorough probe into the incident.
Sheikh Aziz, who heads the Peoples League, was killed when he alongwith another senior Hurriyat leader Shabir Ahmad Shah, was leading the Muzaffarabad march after giving a slip to police who had put almost all senior separatist leaders under house arrest from August 10.
The Separatists alleged that Sheikh was killed in unprovoked firing on peaceful marchers while Mr Narayanan said he was killed by someone within the crowd.
Later, people set on fire the house of the police officer allegedly involved in the firing on processionists.
