India's handloom production on the rise: Vaghela
Kolkata, Sep 2 (UNI) Union Minister for Textile Shankar Singh Vaghela today said that the country's handloom production registered 6.2 per cent growth in the last fiscal.
Inaugurating a national level exhibition-cum-sale of exclusive silk products 'SILK FAB-2008' at Bhawanipur Gujrati Education Society, Mr Vaghela said nearly 400 expos were organized every year by his Ministry to provide direct market access to the weavers and save them from middle men.
About 86 agencies from 15 states, 13 state government agencies/apex bodies, 7 weavers societies which are under development of recently started Integrated Handloom Development Scheme are participating in the 11-day Silk Fab.
Besdies, many primary weaver handloom co-operative societies have set up stalls.
