Govt fully exempts duty on goods for Bihar flood
New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) The government today fully exempted the customs and excise duty on goods meant for donation for the relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the floods in Bihar.
''Since exemption is being provided from basic customs duty and additional duty of customs, such goods would be automatically exempt from the four per cent CV duty,'' an official statement said here.
Such goods would be fully exempt from basic excise duty, it added.
Notifications in this regard have been issued and it comes into force with immediate effect.
These exemptions would be valid till February 28, 2009.
At present, around 30 lakh people in 16 districts of Bihar are in the grip of floods. Most of them belong to worst-affected Supaul, Saharsa, Madhepura and Araria districts.
