Corrupt panchayat secretary sentenced to jail
Bangalore, Sep 2 (UNI) District and Sessions Court of Raichur today sentenced a village Panchyat Secretary to six-month imprisonment and slapped a fine of Rs 2,000 for accepting bribe for showing an official favour.
According to a Lokayukta press release, village Panchayat Secretary Khamar Begum had demanded Rs 4,000 as bribe from Eranna to issue subsidy cheques of Rs 10,000 each under 'Swarna Jayanti Rozgar Yojana' scheme. The case was booked by Lok Ayukta on October ten, 2005.
In another incident, police today nabbed Narasimha Murthy, Senior Inspector of Jegarkal PHC in the same district, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 2,000 from a person, to sanction pending travel allowance bills.
