Patiala, Sep 1 (UNI) The one-man panel probing the high-profile disproportionate assets case against former Punjab DGP S S Virk has given one week's time for the assessment of the cost of his house situated in sector 27 at Chandigarh.

The one-man probe panel headed by Patiala SSP S K Asthana along with his team today visited Virk's house situated in sector 27 in Chandigarh.

As the House was locked and no assessment could be made, the team has handed over a notice to the security in-charge of the house and asked Virk to facilitate the team on September 8 for the assessment.

The probe panel, headed by Patiala SSP S K Asthana was set up by the Punjab Government on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court had taken away the case from the state Vigilance Bureau following an application moved by Virk casting doubts on the impartiality of the Bureau.

A challan by the probe panel was submitted at the Mohali special court on March 23 and supplementary challan was presented to the court on August 8.

According to the challan, it was mentioned that the former state DGP had unaccounted properties worth Rs 16.86 crore.

The supplementary challan also claims that Mr Virk had opened 37 bank accounts in his name or the names of his relatives.
