Govt issues EC to start medical college in TN district
Chennai, Sep 1 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Government has issued Essentiality Certificate (EC) to the city-based Deen Dayal Medical and Educational Trust to start a medical college in the rural Tiruvallur District of the State.
The state government found it essential for the Trust to start a medical college to resolve the problem of deficiencies of qualified medical personnel in the state and improve the availability of such medical manpower.
There were 84,096 registered doctors in the state and the doctors population ratio was 1:832 as per the year 2000, the government said in the EC order dated August 29.
It said the Trust was running a 350-bedded hospital at Kunnavalam village on the Chennai-Tirupathy Highway. The hospital was catering to 1,220 outpatients and 350 inpatients daily, it added.
The Trust could establish the medical college at Kunnavalam with 150 seats from the academic year 2008-09, the government said in the order.
Trust Chairman T D Naidu said the college would start functioning, soon after the Medical Council of India (MCI) gave its consent.
As the Trust had already created all the required infrastructural facilities, the college would be started after it gets MCI nod, he said.
This would be the first medical college in the district which it would give ample opportunities to students in rural areas to take up medicine and serve the people, he added.
