Gulbarga, Sep 1 (UNI) More than 8000 farmers in the District have started making wormy compost thanks to training imparted by the Farming Scientific Centre (FSC).
FSC Officer Raju Teggalli said that the Centre, which was established to encourage the farmers, to adopt organic farming, has received good response from the farming community as more and more farmers showing interest.
Farmer Shamrao Patil told the visiting media persons at Garur (B) Village in Afjalpur taluk, that he has cultivated five kg of earth worm in each of five pits he dug. "I used some of the earth worms as organic fertiliser in my field and balance I sold for Rs 250 per kg. I not only saved money on chemical fertiliser but also earned by selling earth worms", he added.
Mr Teggeli said that the farmers are now realising the importance of organic farming as there is shortage of chemical fertilisers.
Besides in case of crop failure due to scanty rain fall, the farmers can earn money by selling the wormy compost to other farmers.
