Tension prevails following DMDK protest against AIADMK
Tiruchirapalli, Aug 31 (UNI) Tension prevailed for a while as a section of volunteers of Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) raised slogans against All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) activists for allegedly damaging the podium and MDMK flag-mask at Woriyur in the city today.
Police said DMDK hoisted the flag mask near MGR garden here last evening, which was objected by the AIADMK members. The DMDK men, however, noticed this morning that the podium was in a damaged condition and the flag-mask thrown away from the place.
Following the information, a large number of DMDK workers, led by former MLA Arokiasamy came to the spot, raised anti-AIADMK slogans and re-instated the flag-mask at the original place.
Later, DMDK in a police complaint demanded the arrest of culprits.
Meanwhile, in a statement here today, AIADMK Tiruchirapalli District Secretary Murugaiyan said DMDK had set a wrong precedent by hoisting its party's flag before a property belonging to the AIADMK.
In another incident, seven people, including a DMDK functionary was arrested in a clash over wall-writing at Tennur in the city yesterday.
Police said the clash occurred when a group of DMDK men attempted to write on the wall in connection with the party founder Vijayakanth's birthday celebrations, despite objections from local residents.
