Prosecution Dept to compile database of criminal cases

Tiruchirapalli, Aug 31 (UNI) The Prosecution department will compile a computerised database of pending criminal cases in the lower courts across Tamil Nadu for information, according to M K Jha, Inspector General of Police and Director of Prosecution.

Speaking in a function here yesterday, he said the department had embarked on a 'pilot project' by obtaining details of pending cases in lower courts in Krishnagiri District and in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur and Nagapattinam Districts. The details were being obtained from the police stations in respective districts.

Mr Jha said the proposed scheme would be named as 'Court Case Monitoring System', as the Prosecution Department would feed 65,000 pending cases in database. It would provide information to the public about cases and facilitate the process, he added.

Later talking to newspersons here, he said about three lakh cases were pending in various courts across the state. Police would keep track of criminal cases and inform the Prosecution department accordingly, he added.
