Goods train derails near Rajpura in Punjab

Patiala Aug 31 (UNI) Rail traffic on the Rajpura-Sirhind section was disrupted for a couple of hours as an engine and three empty wagons of a goods train derailed at Saryebanjara railway station this afternoon.

A couple of passenger trains were diverted via Patiala as both the up and down tracks were damaged after the derailment.

Senior Railway officials reached the site and got the derailed wagons removed from the tracks.

A senior official of Northern Railways when contacted said due to the damage to the up and down tracks, the speed of all trains on this particlar section had been decreased.

An inquiry has been ordered into the incident.
