'Greed of US will put world at stake'

Dubai, Aug 31: A senior Iranian military commander says any aggression against his country over its nuclear program would lead to a World War. "The unlimited greed of US officials and international Zionism, whose signs can be observed in Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan and more recently in the Caucasus, pushes the world toward the edge of a precipice," Deputy Head of the Armed Forces Headquarters, Brigadier General Seyyed Masoud Jazayeri, said in Tehran.

Israeli officials, backed by the United States, have threatened to launch a military attack on Iran, if Tehran fails to meet Western demands to halt its program to enrich uranium. Both Israel and the US are possessors of nuclear weapons.

Iran, as a signatory to the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), however, maintains that the country is entitled to pursue its nuclear program for peaceful purposes.

The Islamic Republic believes that renouncing its rights under the NPT would encourage world powers to put further pressure on the country and would not lead to a change in the West's hardline stance against Tehran.

Jazayeri added that in the case of any adventurism, 'fake and artificial regimes will be the first to be eliminated', according Press TV Iranian news agency.
