669 new mobile phone towers to be installed in NE
Agartala, August 31 (UNI) Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today announced to install 669 more cellphone towers in the Northeast including 147 in Tripura.
Highest number of towers would be set up in Tripura followed by Meghalaya (102) and Manipur (95). These towers would be installed in all habitats with the population of 500 besides 11000 additional towers within next one and half year's, BSNL sources said.
The installation and management of these infrastructure services started in June 2007 with the subsidy support from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) as a result of which 79000 mobile towers had been set up in 27 states of the country so far.
The Officials however, said that networking from these towers would start in a phased manner by the end of the current year.
