PM asks CMs, banks for skill developments of youth
New Delhi, Aug 30 (UNI) To meet the ambitious goal of creating 500 million trained people by 2020, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today said he has asked the chief ministers to make available educational institutions to agencies engaged in the skill development of the youths, and urged the banking community to find innovative ways to make skill acquisition a ''bankable proposition''.
''In our National Action for Skill Development we would like to set for the country the ambitious goal of 500 million trained people by 2020 in keeping with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi's vision of Rozgar Badhao,'' Dr Singh said after giving away National Awards in the Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
''I have written to the chief ministers to consider opening up the public stock of buildings of educational institutions of the High School level and above after class hours for those agencies engaged in the skill development of our youth,'' he said.
He expressed the hope that the chief ministers would respond positively, and agencies that promote skill development in the private and public sector would use these new opportunities.
''I (also) urge the banking community here to think of innovative ways to make skill acquisition by the youth a bankable propostion,'' he added.
