Logistics, the best career option, says educationist

Chennai, Aug 30 (UNI) Observing logistics was one of the best career options, Indian Institute of Logistics (IIL) Managing Director V J Pushpakumar lamented people were not aware of this field as a career option.

''The opportunities here are tremendous,'' he said at the graduation day of the IIL held here last evening.

The Logistic Industry in India was estimated at 125 billion US Dollar.

India had a vast coastline with 13 major ports and about 180 non-major ports developing rapidly to cater the needs of the industry.

''All these indicate that there is bright future for the job seekers and most of the students from IIL are already selected through campus selections from MNC's in countries like Oman, Sharjah, besides India,'' he added.

The city-based institution claims to provide high quality training in Logistics and Management to churn out well-trained logistians to the business society through its practical career oriented training programmes in Logistics, Shipping and Ports with special emphasis on Multi-Modal Transportation.

''When it comes to choosing a career, only IT, Airlines or Management comes into one's mind. But there is yet another wonderful career option that many are not aware of, one which is very closely associated with all other industries, Logistics,'' he said.

A master mariner with more than a decade of experience in both Shipping as well as Logistics Industry, Capt Pushpakumar claimed IIL was the only Logistics training institute in India which devoted more than 50 per cent of time for practical training in real-life environments such as Major and Minor Ports, different types of ships, container terminals, container freight stations, ship owners, ship charterers offices and custom house.

After completing the course, the student has the option of undergoing one month industrial visit to Singapore to get exposure in international logistics environment.

IIL offers courses in MBA, PG Diploma, Advance Diploma, Diploma with multiple specialisations in Logistics and Shipping, Logistics and Port Management, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Logistics and Export Import Trade, Logistics and Marketing Management, Logistics and HR Management, Logistics and Finance Management and Logistics and Retail Management.
