Forensic sciences could help in detecting infiltrators

Guwahati, Aug 30 (UNI) Forensic Sciences could emerge as a vital player for detecting illegal immigrants in Assam by conducting deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) tests on suspected foreign nationals in days to come.

'' We have not yet been contacted officially, but as this is an issue concerning the state's interests, we believe, in case of a controversy or any doubt, DNA tests could clear doubts, '' said forensic expert Dr S Padmapani here today.

In case of detecting inheritance of a particular person, DNA test would definitely prove handy, he asserted.

Mentioning that the police administration in the state was more or less ignorant of the boons of forensic science, Dr Padmapani pointed out that Assam Police had been found reluctant to take the help of the forensic experts at the right time, which very often hindered the process of investigation.

In order to check the influence of violence in any place, police, forensic science and the judiciary must work in a cohesive manner, which certainly was not happening in the state, Dr Padmapani said.
